Six months ago, Careers Ideas engaged a team of 4 Lancaster University business students to conduct research on our behalf into the barriers employers face when hiring and the barriers Neurodiverse students face when applying for roles.
On Friday 26th April, with some gentle encouragement, the LUMS students presented their findings to a mixed audience of Engineering SME's, School Career leaders, Local Authority delegates and College apprenticeship providers at the HIC building, Lancaster University.

With known skills shortages in our region, especially in the Engineering and Manufacturing sectors, we focused on this industry, as we know from published data by the Royal Academy of Engineering, there are a significantly high proportion of neurodiverse engineers.

The research highlights the importance of having a hiring strategy that is inclusive that does not disadvantage neurodiverse candidates.
